Kampala, Sept. 23 — Uganda’s coffee export earnings declined by 8.2% in August compared to the same period last year, according to a report released Tuesday by the Ministry of Agriculture. The drop was attributed to lower global prices, which continued to affect trade following a downturn in July.
Despite the dip in value, Uganda—Africa’s leading coffee exporter—shipped beans worth $202.8 million during the month. The ministry noted that the price slump had a lingering impact on August’s revenue performance.
Coffee, alongside gold, remains one of Uganda’s top foreign exchange earners.
Interestingly, export volumes rose by 2.5%, with the country dispatching 855,441 bags of coffee (each weighing 60 kilograms). The increase was credited to strong harvests across major coffee-producing regions
