Africa has emerged as Kenya’s most important export destination, accounting for more than 40% of the country’s export earnings as regional trade continues to strengthen. The shift highlights the growing importance of intra-African commerce, supported by improved trade agreements, regional integration and expanding market access.
Kenya exports a wide range of products across the continent, including tea, coffee, horticultural produce, manufactured goods, pharmaceuticals, textiles and processed food products. Demand from neighbouring countries and regional trading partners has continued to increase as businesses seek reliable suppliers within Africa.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is expected to further accelerate trade by reducing tariffs and improving the movement of goods across borders. Better transport infrastructure, modern ports and investments in logistics are also helping Kenyan exporters reach new markets more efficiently.
The Port of Mombasa remains one of East Africa’s busiest trade gateways, supporting exports to countries throughout the region while strengthening Kenya’s position as a regional logistics and distribution hub.
As African economies continue to integrate, Kenya is well positioned to benefit from rising regional demand, creating new opportunities for exporters, manufacturers and agricultural producers while contributing to long-term economic growth across the continent.
