Morocco has achieved a significant milestone in its blueberry exports, setting a new record during the 2023/24 season (from July to June). According to EastFruit, the country not only expanded its presence in all major export markets for fresh blueberries but also demonstrated remarkable growth.

In the recently concluded season, Morocco exported an impressive 67,300 tons of fresh blueberries—a 25% increase compared to the previous season. Remarkably, this represents nearly a quadrupling of Moroccan blueberry exports since the 2017/18 season. During the same period, Spain’s share as the primary destination for Moroccan blueberry sales decreased from 80% to 30%.

Despite this shift, Spain maintained its position as the top market for Moroccan blueberries in the 2023/24 season. Shipments to Spain grew by 11%, reaching 20,100 tons. Similar positive trends were observed in other European markets. For instance, exports to the United Kingdom from Morocco increased by almost one-third to 14,600 tons, to the Netherlands by 42% to 14,500 tons, to Germany by 25% to 4,300 tons, and to France by 19% to 3,900 tons.

Morocco’s blueberry exports extended beyond Europe. In the Middle East, the country exported 1,800 tons of blueberries, with key buyers including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Additionally, Moroccan exporters successfully increased shipments to North America, delivering 360 tons to the United States and 900 tons to Canada.

Southeast Asia – encompassing Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia – remains a vital destination for Moroccan blueberry exports in Asia. Morocco currently ranks among the top five largest supplier countries in this region.
