Global shipping and logistics group CMA CGM has inaugurated a new regional headquarters in Abidjan, reinforcing its long-term commitment to Africa and strengthening coordination of its maritime and logistics activities across the continent.

The new hub will oversee the company’s operations in West and Central Africa, serving as a strategic base for managing shipping services, port activities and inland logistics solutions. Abidjan, home to one of the region’s busiest ports, has increasingly positioned itself as a key gateway for trade in francophone West Africa.

By consolidating its regional leadership in Côte d’Ivoire, CMA CGM aims to enhance operational efficiency, improve customer service and support the expansion of integrated supply chain solutions. The headquarters will coordinate maritime transport, terminal management and freight forwarding activities, while also supporting digitalisation and innovation initiatives within the group’s African network.

The move reflects growing trade volumes between Africa and global markets, particularly in agricultural exports, minerals and manufactured goods. As supply chains become more complex and regional integration efforts accelerate under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), logistics providers are investing in stronger on-the-ground coordination.

Abidjan’s strategic location and expanding port infrastructure make it a natural choice for regional oversight. The Port of Abidjan has undergone significant upgrades in recent years, boosting container capacity and reinforcing its status as a transshipment and distribution hub.

CMA CGM has operated in Africa for several decades and maintains a strong presence across multiple coastal and inland markets. The establishment of the Abidjan regional headquarters signals the company’s intent to deepen partnerships with African governments, port authorities and private-sector stakeholders.

As trade corridors evolve and intra-African commerce expands, logistics coordination will play a crucial role in unlocking economic growth. With its new regional base, CMA CGM is positioning itself to support Africa’s expanding trade ambitions and increasingly interconnected supply chains.
