Iran is rapidly expanding its footprint in Africa’s import markets, with non-oil exports to the continent increasing by 2.2 times in the four months leading up to July 2025 compared to the same period last year. According to the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA), exports now reach 34 African countries—up from 29 in March.

Key exports include industrial machinery, petrochemical derivatives, pharmaceuticals, and agricultural inputs. The surge follows a major economic cooperation conference held in Tehran, where African officials and business leaders explored bilateral trade opportunities. Improved shipping logistics and relaxed customs regulations have further facilitated Iran’s market penetration.

Iran’s strategy aligns with its broader goal of reducing reliance on oil revenues and diversifying its global trade partnerships. For African importers, this presents an opportunity to source competitively priced goods while expanding diplomatic and economic ties with non-Western partners.
