Since the successful global re-brand from Doosan to Develon two years ago, Develon South Africa has intensified its expansion programme with the launch of new equipment and the continued strategy of increasing the company’s footprint throughout Southern Africa.
“An important focus of our support to customers, is to ensure our machines deliver the highest standards of performance and reliability in tough conditions that are unique to Africa,” explains Johann Viljoen – National Sales Manager, Develon SA – a global leader in earthmoving equipment. “Our broad range of robust Develon machines – including excavators, articulated dump trucks (ADT’s) and wheel loaders – has been developed to perfectly suit local harsh operating environments. Features for high efficiency, versatility, stability and low maintenance requirements are critical in many sectors, including construction, mining, quarrying and civil engineering. Durability of machines is key, as every equipment owner strives to prevent downtime, because failure can significantly impact project deadlines and negatively affect budgets.
“Develon equipment is built with eco-friendly, high-powered, fuel-efficient engines, a robust chassis structure and advanced hydraulic systems, to maximise performance and reliability in arduous environments. Added to this, our equipment boasts low emissions, enhanced operator safety, greater comfort and precise control. Convenient design features enable quick and effortless maintenance procedures.
“Because productivity and deadlines and are critical in every project – whether it’s in infrastructure development, bulk earthworks or mining – the choice of construction machinery is of paramount importance.
“Our team’s sound advisory service on correct equipment selection for specific tasks, is enhanced by a broad branch network offering technical support, easy access to quality branded spare parts, reliable repair and maintenance, as well as operator training services.
“The equipment selection process involves considering which machine will deliver the highest efficiencies for every project and which machines, when used together, are able to deliver even greater results.
“A fine example of achieving high productivity and maximising return on investment when pairing machines, is the combination of the Develon DA45 Articulated Dump Truck (ADT) and Develon DX800 excavator. Often on job sites, when excavators and haulers are mismatched in capacity, speed, or fuel economy, there are problems with project delays, overuse of fuel and mechanical stress.
“Not only does the complementary duo of the DX800 and DA45 overcome the challenges of arduous terrain, but also ensures adherence to project deadlines and budget restraints. Taking a closer look at the benefits of pairing, Develon specialists highlight greater productivity, as a result of load capacity alignment for optimised cycles, similar duty cycles to reduce idle time and shared technology integration for smoother operations.”
The Develon DA45 ADT highly maneuverable dump truck has a low center of gravity, high ground clearance and permanent six-wheel drive, making this machine ideal for safe and stable heavy-load transport on rough unpredictable terrain.
Key Features include a payload capacity of 41 metric tons, a Scania 13-litre diesel engine, ZF automatic transmission with eight forward and four reverse gears and advanced suspension. The DA45’s stability under heavy payloads and a dynamic braking system, minimise the risk of rollovers or breakdowns, especially on hills and challenging job sites.
Develon heavy-duty DX800 excavators boast an operating weight of over 80 tons, a bucket capacity between 4.5 and 5.2 m³ and high-pressure hydraulics for greater force with lower fuel burn. Other notable features include a heavy-duty undercarriage with reinforced track links and rollers and an aesthetically modern operator cabin with climate control, vibration dampening and an intuitive display system.
These high-performance excavators, with enhanced breakout force, faster cycle times and smart energy-saving modes, reduce fuel consumption and operator fatigue, even in multi-shift operations.
When the DX800 and DA45 ADTs are paired, cycle times are reduced. The excavator fills the ADT in fewer passes, optimising each truckload. This shortens loading times, which in turn increases the number of cycles per hour – a direct boost to profitability. The combination of these machines also synchronises cycle times to eliminate the inefficiency of mismatched machinery, where a truck sits idle waiting for loading, or an excavator waits for the next vehicle. By working within each machine’s optimal performance range, fuel usage is reduced and by working in perfect balance, service life is extended and ownership costs are significantly reduced.
Both machines have integrated smart diagnostics and telemetry, including real-time fuel tracking, maintenance alerts, GPS monitoring and load and productivity metrics. Develon’s centralised fleet management tools allow project managers to remotely monitor machine health, optimise schedules, and predict service needs – reducing unscheduled downtime.
This combination of machines is recommended for equipment owners involved bulk excavation or quarrying, those looking to reduce cycle time without compromising power and those who value long-term fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
